WELCOME
CREATIVE SPRIDGETS is an interactive design workshop for DIY performance and reliability modifications requiring ordinary shop tools, commonly available auto parts, and where necessary, CNC-machined core components. Our goal is to provide Spridget owners with the least-expensive route to desirable upgrades.
We provide shop-tested, on-line instructions for each project with photos and videos. However, if you have suggestions to improve any aspect of an installation, please contact us and we will respond to your comments and post photos or videos of your refinements. Many have already done so!
We also appreciate learning about cheaper sources for a project's parts list to maximize savings for Spridget owners.
Our DIY projects have been performed in Australia, Canada, England, France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, Taiwan, and even the United States!
DIY intercooled SUPERCHARGER conversion for longitudinally oriented 948, 1098 and 1275 a-series engines
Below is a video of the 1967 MG Midget ‘test mule’ running an internally stock 1275cc engine.
Compare the above to this 0-96 mph ride-along in Doug McConnell’s modified 1275cc engine…
Fitment: all year/model Spridgets with A-Series engines
Inexpensive: 40 to 60% the cost of packaged kits
40 to 50% increase in horsepower & torque at flywheel
Compatible with fuel injection or SU HIF44 carburetor
Intercooler, impossible with 'draw through' kits, avoids detonation and backfiring without internal engine modifications
Labor-intensive but straightforward installation with moderate fabrication can be done in stages while continuing to drive naturally aspirated
Low maintenance (we recommend changing the blower’s synthetic gear box oil every 15,000 miles or two years)
Uses Eaton M45 supercharger from 1999-2004 Mercedes Benz SLK230 or 1999-2000 Mercedes Benz C230 (without electronic clutch)

diy serpentine belt conversion for all a-series engines
Fitment: all year/model Spridgets with A-Series engines
Simple installation, smooth operation
Automatic spring tensioner eliminates slippage and enables instant belt changes using a 3/8” rachet driver
Use either a compact, dual internal fan 90-amp CS121D Saturn alternator, the popular CS130-style early Saturn alternator, a late model stock Spridget alternator, or (pictured) a converted generator

diy Dual-pass crossflow VW rabbit (Golf) aluminum radiator conversion
Fitment: all year/model Spridgets with A-Series engines
Maintains engine temperature within 3 to 4 degree range regardless of operating conditions. Who needs an oil cooler?
Integral electronic fan switch available in varying temperature ranges
Straightforward installation with minor fabrication
Uses widely available, inexpensive aluminum radiator, molded hoses, and high-flow thermostat housing
